Earth and Space Test Tomorrow - Mnemonics

Tomorrow begins the often dreaded finals week, and I have an Earth and Space Science test tomorrow. One of the things we are supposed to memorize is the Mass of the Planets and distance in relation to the Sun.

My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune [Pluto - Dwarf]

“Mnemonics (pronounced “ne-mon’-ics”) is the art of assisting the memory by using a system of artificial aids - rhymes, rules, phrases, diagrams, acronyms and other devices - all to help in the recall of names, dates, facts and figures.”

You cannot escape it; you are insignificant.

I’m reminded of this frequently at night when I stare up into the abundance of seemingly infinite stars. So, maybe your family quoted it, and your culture echoed it: “you can do anything you set your mind to.”

Sadly the majority of you reading this will live dismal insignificant lives. Do nothing significant, and be remembered as nothing important. We have merely become rats in the race, fuel for the fire. Consumed and deprived by the cycle. There’s no happy ending, you live and die, and you will be forgotten. Despite your idea of paradise, the world forgets. And when it forgets, it forgets you…

And all the shallow Christians nod their heads in approval, because in the end it doesn’t matter right? Just live, accept Jesus, die and spend eternity dancing/flying/floating around heaven.

It’s 1:52 AM and this is what I’m thinking about.

Is it the bottle of alcohol, the drunkard or the drop? The physical acting out of non-marital (however our culture will ethically construe it) sexual intercourse, or the small creeping voice of lustful thought. Has legalism so drastically tainted our lives that these are the questions that must be constantly debated? Here, let me ask you a better question. Do your actions rob you of Christ? Is not that what matters…

The first version seemed to be slightly unbalanced due to the turkey legs on the right side. I have modified the logo center, the design now consist of only two colors (evidentely less expensive to print). Hopefully printed on a long sleeve light grey t-shirt. Updates pending.

"When theology becomes mere theory divorced from Christian life and practice, it is indeed questionable. But the criticism is one-sided. If theory without practice is empty, practice without theory is blind."

Hey you! Yeh you! Get Dropbox!

About three months ago I stumbled upon a wonderful application while browsing the iusethis application listing. Dropbox is easily integrated into both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Essentially you can easily have files synced between multiple computers and the internet, meaning you no longer need to worry about having a flash drive handy in order to print that paper you slaved over earlier.

    Get Dropbox Installer

You can Register for a Dropbox account free of charge, and you are allotted 2 Gigabytes of web storage. Optionally you can upgrade to a larger storage amount for a small price. Personally everything I ever written (powerpoints, readings, papers, etc) in college is synced to Dropbox and currently only 40% of the total storage limit has been used. So what are you waiting for, jump over to Dropbox and get started!

    Apathetic Towards Apathy

Tonight is overshadowed by a peculiar tinge of gloom; viable avenues of social escape were presented, but I have chosen instead to retire home, where I will face the most vicious villain of all… myself.

In reflection I have synthesized my thoughts into the following analogy, no matter how fervently you run away, you will eventually grow weary. However, when what you are running from turns from reality to imagination you can face that imagination and curse, you can sit, legs crossed, buried heart deep in apathy.

Do you understand what I am saying? I am literally torn between being moved, and not allowing myself to be moved. I want so deeply to lust for something, to yearn, but I cannot because yearning takes effort, and effort involves moving. Numerous to-do-list of pursued accomplishments are flippantly flung aside, subsiding instead into a lifestyle of nothingness. It reminds me of bitter Ohio winters, where eventually the cold numbs the bodies’ ability to feel, I want so badly the sensation of warmth.

I cannot bring myself to care, and I cannot bring myself to not care. So I guess I am not-care-caring if there is such a thing. I wish I could escape the suffocating darkness that this mindset incubates.

Have you ever experienced this? Look around North America; we’re not so different after all.
